Åsa Sjöström, who became unit manager on March 1, said most patients come three times a week. According to official figures, 14 patients receive dialysis at Lindesberg Hospital. One patient has recently learned to perform dialysis at home, as the region aims to increase home dialysis numbers.
Home dialysis eliminates travel and is cost-effective, but is not suitable for everyone and is decided case by case. Sjöström noted that when it works, it is a win-win. The clinic employs seven registered nurses and one assistant nurse.
Doctors from Karlskoga visit one day a week, with additional medical expertise from the on-call service. The clinic collaborates with dietitians, physiotherapists, counselors, and sometimes occupational therapists. It also has extensive contact with medical technology staff due to the equipment-heavy work.
Sjöström said the clinic has good collaboration with dialysis units at USÖ and Karlskoga Hospital.
