Dangerous avalanche conditions exist in western Vindelfjällen, where several ski resorts including Tärnaby and Hemavan are located, according to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's website. The avalanche danger in the area is assessed as significant with dangerous conditions, corresponding to a level three on the five-grade scale. Skiers and snowmobile riders are warned about unstable wind-drifted snow that can slide on steep lee slopes.
It is also difficult to determine which slopes are safe because the snow's weaknesses are not visible on the surface. The snow may feel stable, but a very large avalanche can still be triggered nearby. The forecast is valid until 18:00 on Sunday.
In Kebnekaisefjällen, Abisko- and Riksgränsfjällen, southern Lapplandsfjällen, southern Jämtlandsfjällen, and western Härjedalsfjällen, the avalanche danger is assessed as moderate, a level two on the scale.
