The new series features significant character developments for Jim Bergerac. According to Daily Express - Showbiz, Damien Molony described how Bergerac is losing his support network as his daughter is moving away and his mother-in-law has a boyfriend. Molony also noted that Bergerac is tentatively dating with his daughter Kim's encouragement.
The plot includes a murder mystery where a groom at a wedding reception on Jersey is found murdered in his hotel room, with the wedding party coming under suspicion. This revival follows the original Bergerac series, which ran for ten years. According to Daily Express - Showbiz, Molony described learning how the show was a massive part of people's Sunday night routines.
I think so. I didn't!
Season two of the new series includes newcomers Adrian Edmondson and Lesley Sharp, though their specific roles have not been detailed. The exact release date and number of episodes for the new series remain unconfirmed, as do critical or audience reception details and the full official synopsis.
I knew of it, obviously, it was really only why I got offered the job. I was at a wedding and people were like, 'Damien, the car, the jacket, Jersey!' And I was like, 'What have I signed up for?'
And then slowly but surely, I started to get a sense of [the show], because obviously I went back and watched some of John Nettles' version of Bergerac. And then when we started filming in Jersey, I got a real sense of how big it was.
It ran for ten years. One of the things I subsequently learned was that it was such a massive part of people's Sunday nights. Sitting at home, fire on, Bergerac on, everyone around the TV. And so, I'm kind of glad I didn't go back and watch every single episode of Bergerac, because I would have freaked out. I would have got really, really nervous. It was really only once we were up and running [with] filming, then I started to get a sense of how important it was to people's weekends.
[Bergerac's] losing his support network a little bit. His daughter is moving away, his mother-in-law has got a boyfriend, so he could kind of go either way.
It's a really lovely feeling. It just goes to show how beloved the character of Bergerac is, because obviously we want to bring all of those fans of John Nettles' original version, but we also want to open it up to [new fans].
