Cristian Camilo Munoz, a Colombian professional cyclist for the NU Colombia team, died on Friday morning after suffering a knee injury during a crash at the Tour du Jura, according to multiple reports. He was 30 years old.

According to reports, the crash occurred on Saturday, April 18, 2026, during the race in France. Munoz required 20 stitches to his left knee after the accident. He left the hospital on Sunday night and traveled to Spain to join his teammates for another race scheduled for Thursday, according to his team.

On Tuesday, Munoz was taken to a hospital in Valladolid due to swelling in his knee. Medical staff detected a serious infection that required urgent care, according to reports. Despite medical efforts, Munoz died on Friday morning. The specific infection and exact cause of death have not been disclosed.

Munoz posted a birthday wish to his partner Angela on Instagram on Tuesday, just days before his death. He was a former teammate of Tadej Pogacar at UAE Team Emirates, having raced for the team in 2021 and 2022 before joining NU Colombia. Munoz had been with NU Colombia since 2023 and was considered a promising rider in the Colombian cycling scene.
