Two curling stones have been stolen from the arena in Cortina, Italy, ahead of the Paralympics. The stones weigh 19 kilograms each and were reportedly used during the Olympics and were intended for use in the wheelchair curling mixed doubles tournament at the upcoming Paralympics. According to reports from CBC, the stones were brand new for the Olympics.
The International Curling Federation's spokesperson Chris Hamilton confirmed the theft in an email, stating that authorities are investigating the incident. It is unclear how the thieves managed to remove the heavy stones. Replacement stones have been brought in and adapted to the same specifications as the rest of the set.
