Culture Minister criticized for prioritizing podcasts over serious interviews
Key Points
  • Culture Minister Parisa Liljestrand is criticized for prioritizing podcasts over a longer interview with Magasin K
  • Media outlets like Expressen and Dagens Nyheter have amplified the criticism
  • Political commentator My Rohwedder analyzes the avoidance strategy and defends Liljestrand's role

Culture Minister Parisa Liljestrand is receiving criticism from Susanne Claesson, editor-in-chief of the trade union DIK's magazine Magasin K, for not having time to do a longer interview about cultural issues with the magazine, despite having participated in both a training podcast and a dog podcast. In October 2025, Magasin K first tried to arrange such an interview, something they have still not managed to do. This criticism was amplified in a debate article in Expressen, where Claesson argued that journalistic work is being crowded out by content.

The issue was further highlighted in Dagens Nyheter, where writer Johannes Klenell also criticized the culture minister's priorities. Political commentator My Rohwedder at Aftonbladet analyzed the situation, saying it is a well-known political strategy to avoid interviews with more well-read journalists if one does not feel completely comfortable with the topic. Rohwedder described Liljestrand as a perfect culture minister because she creates a lot of cultural debate, which is also an important part of the cultural sphere.

In response to Kulturnyheterna, the culture minister said she has answered questions from Magasin K on several occasions, both in writing and in interviews. The specific details of her participation in the training and dog podcasts have not been disclosed.
