The Court of Appeal has upheld a life imprisonment sentence for a 27-year-old man convicted of murdering and dismembering his 25-year-old colleague and friend in Oskarshamn. The court confirmed the lower court's ruling of life imprisonment and lifetime deportation for the perpetrator.

According to court documents, the victim, identified as Sharif Haidari, was murdered and his body parts were discovered in the perpetrator's freezer in an Oskarshamn apartment in February of last year. Haidari had been reported missing for approximately one month prior to the discovery.

Court President Patrik Örnsved stated in the ruling that "a comprehensive assessment of the circumstances surrounding the death leads to the conclusion that the act is so seriously qualified that it justifies a life sentence."

The investigation revealed that the motive for the murder was financial. The 27-year-old perpetrator reportedly had significant financial problems due to a gambling addiction, and the victim had loaned him tens of thousands of kronor on multiple occasions.

Following the murder, the perpetrator fled to Iran but returned to Sweden in mid-April, where he was arrested by police. Throughout the legal proceedings, the convicted man has maintained his innocence, claiming that a third party committed the murder and dismembered the body in his apartment.

In addition to the murder conviction, the man was also found guilty of aggravated violation of a grave and serious fraud against the murder victim after his death.
