County governor approves 140 new holiday homes in Beitostølen
Key Points
  • County Governor approves up to 140 new holiday homes in Beitostølen
  • Plan was halted in 2024 due to procedural errors, now approved
  • Strong opposition from residents and political parties

The planning process started six years ago and faced much criticism. The plan was halted in 2024 due to procedural errors but has now been approved. The development has met strong opposition and extensive complaints from cabin owners and permanent residents.

According to NRK Innlandet, Petter A. Knudsen described the inclusion of apartment blocks as inappropriate for a cabin area. Both the Socialist Left Party (SV) and the Liberal Party (Venstre) in Øystre Slidre were against such extensive development.

The County Governor concluded that the municipality has corrected previous errors and ensured participation. The municipality conducted new studies and ensured that considerations for traffic, children, and young people are better addressed than in the previous round. The County Governor emphasizes municipal self-governance and local politicians' desire for densification near the center.

The municipal council of Øystre Slidre is satisfied that the matter has reached a conclusion. However, the municipality's area plan has still not been adopted.
