The County Administrative Board has reportedly overturned a municipality's decision to allow a business owner to build three garages in Guldkusten, according to local media reports. The dispute began in November 2024 when a business owner from Piteå applied for permission to construct three garages along Gamla Pitsundsvägen in Guldkusten. Municipal officials from the community development department expressed reservations about the project because the area lies within the corridor planned for the Norrbotniabanan railway.
Despite staff recommendations to reject the application, the municipal committee reportedly approved the business owner's request for preliminary approval. Neighbors in the area were reportedly angered by the decision and appealed to the County Administrative Board. The higher authority has now reversed the municipality's decision and prohibited construction in the area, siding with the concerned residents.
The case highlights tensions between local development interests and regional infrastructure planning, particularly regarding the forthcoming Norrbotniabanan railway project.
