The County Administration (Länsstyrelsen) has initiated an investigation into the guardianship board in southern Lapland after it approved the sale of a dementia patient's house to Åsele councilor Andreas From (S). According to SVT Västerbotten, the investigation follows revelations that From purchased a house from a dementia patient living in a nursing home. The councilor resigned from all political positions the day after the disclosure, citing that he had received significant hate and threats.
The guardianship board that approved the sale includes Gunnel Jonsson (S), who is a party colleague of From and previously shared the councilor position in Åsele with him. Lawyer Hanna Mörtberg stated that ultimately, the County Administration could seek the removal of board members through the district court. The case has raised questions about potential conflicts of interest in the approval process.
