Convicted activists run for Swedish parliament
Key Points
  • Several candidates for Swedish parliament have convictions for politically motivated crimes.
  • Jonas Ohlsson (Left Party) has multiple convictions including chaining himself at an airport.
  • Civil Defense Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin expressed concern about the candidates' potential role in electing a prime minister.

Jonas Ohlsson, a Left Party candidate, was convicted for unauthorized entry, disobedience to law enforcement, and unauthorized access to a protected object. He was one of the activists who shouted down former Prime Minister Stefan Löfven during a parliamentary debate in June 2020. In March 2023, he was convicted for unauthorized access to a protected object after chaining himself at Bromma airport.

According to Expressen, Ohlsson described civil disobedience as a necessary method and sees no contradiction in being convicted while running for parliament. He is currently chairman of the local branch in Degerfors. Civil Defense Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin told Expressen he finds it troubling that such candidates could help elect Magdalena Andersson as Prime Minister.

Is it these people who are supposed to vote her in as Prime Minister if they win the election?
