The classic boat Trio has reportedly sunk in the Fyrisån river in Uppsala, according to local reports. Uppsala municipality had initiated a preventive cleanup operation on the vessel in late February when the river was still frozen, aiming to stop it from sinking with potentially environmentally hazardous materials. The municipality took action because the boat's owner was unable to perform the cleanup themselves.
Rafael Waters (S), chairman of the street and community environment committee, stated at the time that the cleanup was being funded through the municipality's sanitation budget and was much cheaper to do preventively than after damage occurred. Despite these efforts, the boat has now sunk, though it remains unclear how far the municipality progressed with the actual cleanup operation before the sinking. The incident was first reported on the morning of March 12, 2026.
