A classic boat in Fyrisån, Uppsala, Sweden, is undergoing cleanup to avoid becoming an environmental hazard. The boat sank a few years ago and is showing signs of a new leak. The cleanup, led by Youssef Aleili, is a heavy task aimed at removing hazardous liquids.
Uppsala Municipality is handling the cleanup because the owner cannot do it themselves, with costs covered by the municipal cleaning budget. Rafael Waters (S), chairman of the street and community environment committee, says it is much cheaper to act now than after damage occurs. The work is expected to take several weeks and is timed for when the boat is frozen in place to reduce the risk of capsizing during the operation.

After cleanup, the boat will be better moored at the quayside.
