The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency is making a final push to inspect as many as possible of Sweden's 64,000 shelters. Gällivare is seen as a particularly strategic location, where a third of all shelters are to be checked. Inspectors found issues that need to be addressed, such as drilled holes in a shelter ceiling with newly installed water pipes and a hole for a fiber optic cable.
The property owner may need to fix these. Otherwise, most items on the inspection checklist were approved. This is the agency's last effort before county administrative boards take over the inspections.
The agency selected areas based on special security policy significance, including Gällivare.
