A nine-year-old girl named Luiza Paun, known as Bia, drowned in the River Thames in Gravesend, Kent, on May 30 last year. A boy jumped into the river to try to save her, and her uncle along with a member of the public, George Karnovski, also entered the water in a rescue attempt. According to George Karnovski, Luiza was screaming as she struggled against the current after falling in while playing on a jetty. Emergency services including HM Coastguard, RNLI, and police searched for Luiza, continuing into the next day. Her body was pulled from the water at around 11:35 am the day after she fell in. CCTV captured Luiza playing with another child on Gravesend Promenade's Royal Terrace Pier before the incident. George Karnovski took about two minutes to push through currents to reach the children, who were 20 meters away. By the time he reached where he had seen Luiza and the other child, he could only see the boy floating on his back with no sign of Luiza. The RNLI rescued George Karnovski and the boy from the water. A post-mortem report recorded Luiza Paun's cause of death as drowning, and Coroner Venessa Holt gave a conclusion of death by accident.

In Brazil, an 18-year-old girl named Thaynara Lima da Silva died after falling into Lake Serra da Mesa in Niquelandia during a fishing trip on April 4. Thaynara Lima da Silva could not swim and was not wearing a life jacket when she fell into the water. The boat reportedly struck a branch and sped out of control before overturning, throwing passengers into the lake. Firefighters said two or three people were rescued, but Thaynara went under and could not be found. Her body was found on the afternoon of April 6, about 400 meters from shore in water around 18 meters deep. Officials said the boat did not immediately overturn; after striking the branch, it ended up unmanned and continued moving and circling before eventually overturning.

On May 30 at 1:45 pm, Luiza Paun fell into the river. The child she was with jumped in to try to help her as well as members of the public.

Three Indian teenagers, Trisha (17), Ratna Kumari (16), and Pavitra (16), drowned at Mulagummi waterfall near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, India, on Thursday. The girls slipped from rocks at the waterfall and drifted into deeper water. None of the three girls were able to swim. Locals rushed to save the girls but they were swept away by the current.

An eight-year-old girl drowned in Palluau-sur-Indre in the Indre department of France on March 8. The girl and her mother were canoeing on the Indre river when their canoe suddenly overturned at the location called La Motte. The canoe was carried by the current before getting stuck against an open dam gate. Emergency services and gendarmes were alerted in the early evening. Firefighters located and rescued the mother, but the eight-year-old girl disappeared in the water and could not be rescued in time. An investigation has been opened to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy.

The boy was rescued, and after an extensive search, Luiza Paun was found the next day in the water and pronounced dead.

A seven-year-old girl was pulled from the water at Colleges Crossing Recreational Reserve in Chuwar, southwest of Brisbane, on Saturday afternoon. The girl vanished while swimming, sparking a frantic search. Emergency crews were called just before 5 pm, with police, POLAIR, and specialist dive units searching for hours. At 10:24 pm, the girl was retrieved from the water but could not be saved. A primary school-aged boy was also taken to Ipswich Hospital in stable condition after being pulled from the water.

These incidents have occurred at various locations, but it remains unclear what specific safety measures or regulations were in place at each site. In ongoing cases, such as in France and India, the current status of investigations and whether any parties are being held accountable has not been publicly detailed.

I want to offer my sincere condolences to the family.
