Chinese car makers are often accused of imitating popular European models, and the latest family car from China to arrive on Britain’s roads is a copycat of another Chinese motor. The Jaecoo 7 has become a massive sales hit in the UK, topping the March registrations chart and dubbed the ‘Temu Range Rover’ for its resemblance to the Range Rover Velar. The Lepas L6 is a doppelganger of the Jaecoo 7, with its design claimed to embody the agility of a running leopard despite more elegant lines.
Lepas is owned by the Chery Group, also Jaecoo's parent, and is the fourth Chery brand to debut in the UK in 18 months after Omoda, Jaecoo, and Chery. The Lepas L6 arrives around October as the second Lepas model, following the larger L8 SUV, with Lepas positioned as the most luxurious Chery brand tuned for European roads. When it launches later in 2026, the Lepas L6 will offer a long-range self-charging hybrid or all-electric powertrain, unlike the Jaecoo 7 which lacks a full EV option.
5-litre petrol engine with a battery and motor delivering 201bhp, claimed to enable 700-mile journeys. The EV variant has a 67kWh battery claimed for 270-mile range, with power unconfirmed but a display model used a 239bhp motor. UK specifications remain under wraps, leaving details like exact EV power, pricing, and performance comparisons unknown.
