Key Points
  • The Centre Party in Stockholm proposes replacing synthetic transit voices with local recorded ones.
  • The motion includes voices reflecting Stockholm dialects, such as Ekensnack and Lidingö dialect.
  • Jonas Naddebo says this aims to boost local pride and improve passenger orientation.

The Centre Party in Stockholm has proposed that SL, the public transit operator, replace synthetic voices with recorded ones linked to specific city areas. The motion suggests using four to five different voices that reflect local Stockholm dialects and expressions, such as classic Ekensnack in southern parts and Lidingö dialect on the Lidingö line. Jonas Naddebo, district chair of the Centre Party in Stockholm, stated that local pride should be celebrated, and the proposal aims to help passengers understand their location better, following criticism of the current AI voice from Johanna Hermann Lundberg, whose voice is used in the subway.

The idea includes allowing discussions on pronunciations, like whether Tensta should be said as "Ténsta" or "Tennsta".
