A care worker has been convicted of assault for violently pushing a 96-year-old woman into bed and shouting at her during a care intervention at an elderly care home in Umeå municipality. The incident occurred in October when the care worker, a man in his 20s, became violent as the woman was being put to bed after a shower. The woman resisted, after which the care worker grabbed her arm hard, pushed her down into the bed, and shouted at her.
According to a colleague who was also in the room, the elderly woman became very frightened. Afterwards, she had pain and showed bruises around her arm and redness on her chest. The care worker denied the act and said he barely touched the woman during the care.

Umeå District Court convicted him of assault. The court assessed it as aggravating that the crime was committed in the woman's home, that she was completely defenseless, and that the man had the task of caring for her. A mitigating aspect in the assessment of the penalty was that the man lost his job after the incident.
The sentence was determined as a conditional sentence and 75 hours of community service. He must pay damages to the woman of 20,000 kronor.
