According to TV4 Nyheterna, the breach involves data of 275 million users. Canvas is used by over 7,000 educational institutions worldwide. Mats Möller, IT-chef at Karlstad University, told SVT Värmland that over 10,000 students and staff at the university use the system and are affected.

He added that many Swedish universities using Canvas are also impacted. The university cannot yet say what data has been leaked, as an investigation is ongoing. Instructure, the company behind Canvas, reported on May 1 that it had been hit by a new cyberattack.

It is over 10,000 people who use the system, both students and staff, who are affected.

According to the security chief, names, email addresses, student numbers, and private messages were extracted before the situation was brought under control. Several Norwegian institutions, including the University of Oslo and NTNU, also use Canvas. Students at several Norwegian universities say they have not received information about the leak, according to VG.

It is currently unknown who is behind the attack.
