Camden takeaway loses licence over hygiene and noise

Crime & justiceCrime
Key Points
  • Lebanese Grill Express has a zero-star food hygiene rating and lost its late-night licence.
  • Residents complained of noise, early deliveries, and air pollution.
  • The owner allegedly dismissed complaints as racism and accused authorities of incompetence.

Residents of the Bourne Estate said the takeaway plays music until 1am every day, with deliveries starting as early as 5:30am. They also claimed chimney smoke pollutes the air for 14 to 15 hours daily. According to the Daily Mail, one resident described the situation as making lives miserable, saying that if it were in a wealthier area the place would be shut down.

The owner allegedly dismissed neighbours' concerns as 'racism' and accused police and the council of incompetence, residents said. The restaurant opened in 2021, and meetings were held that year and again in 2023 between owners, residents, police, and the council to address disruption, but matters did not improve.

Camden Council revoked the late-night licence in November 2023 due to pollution concerns. The revocation was appealed, allowing the restaurant to operate until 1am until the appeal is heard. The current status of the appeal is unknown, and the owner has not responded to the latest allegations.
