The roof of the bus terminal in Mora, Sweden collapsed on Thursday evening, forcing the closure of the transportation hub. According to Region Dalarna, which announced the incident, no one was injured in the collapse.
The terminal has been cordoned off and closed to the public following the structural failure. Rescue services from Norra Dalarna fire department are on site to secure the area and prevent unauthorized access. Officials have warned of potential further collapses, creating ongoing safety concerns.
We can suspect that it's due to wet snow, but we don't know exactly what happened
Björn Erlandsson, a preparedness officer with Dalatrafik, stated that wet snow accumulation is suspected as the cause, though the exact circumstances remain under investigation. "We can suspect that it's due to wet snow, but we don't know exactly what happened," Erlandsson said.
The collapse affected parts of the bus terminal roof and the first five bus connection platforms. While buses can still approach the terminal, passengers cannot access the building interior. Travelers are being directed to go directly to buses rather than passing through the terminal building.
It was incredibly lucky
Erlandsson noted the fortunate timing of the incident, saying "It was incredibly lucky" that it occurred when no traffic was active. The terminal is expected to remain closed for several weeks as authorities assess the damage and plan repairs.
