Bus service cut between Hällefors and Karlskoga, disrupting travel
Key Points
  • Bus service between Hällefors and Karlskoga cut in December as part of Länstrafiken's savings
  • Municipal proposal for new morning and evening trips to address commuting, school, and healthcare needs at 1.2 million kronor cost
  • Decision backed by executive board but not fully formalized, with protocol adjustment on Monday and potential objections

The direct bus service between Hällefors and Karlskoga will no longer run from December, according to officials. Line 404 is one of seven lines that Länstrafiken has cut as part of its savings, disappearing at the timetable change on December 14. Travel between the towns now requires going via Örebro, taking more than twice as long as before, the municipality said.

To address this, the municipal executive board will make a submission to the public transport committee to urgently decide on a new bus solution, according to Cecilia Albertsson. The proposal involves a morning trip and an evening trip between Hällefors and Karlskoga, including for work commuting, high school students, and healthcare visits. 2 million kronor, officials reported.

The municipal executive board has backed the direction, but the decision is not yet fully formalized. The protocol will be adjusted on Monday, and in theory, members can still raise objections, even though the decision was unanimous when taken, officials said. All involved parties are said to be keen to find a solution, but it is currently unclear when a new bus line could be operational.

The exact start date for the proposed morning and evening trips if approved remains uncertain, and whether any objections will be raised during the protocol adjustment on Monday is also unknown.
