Key Points
  • Brynäs backtracked on restrictive media policy after criticism
  • Captain Johan Larsson apologized for spraying water at a TV4 cameraman
  • Brynäs violates ice hockey rules on assistant captains, but SHL has allowed it for years

The policy required journalists to inform the club about interviews before approval and to book interviews by 17:00 the day before training. Brynäs stated that their goal is not to make things difficult but to improve service levels for media. The club had a similar policy last season requiring booking by 09:00.

Captain Johan Larsson sprayed water from a water bottle at a TV4 cameraman filming in the team's bench area during a match. Larsson apologized, stating he crossed the line of acceptable conduct. Club director Håkan Svedman said the club takes the incident seriously and that everyone should feel welcome at Monitor ERP Arena.

Our goal is not to make things difficult – on the contrary, we want to improve the service level towards you in the media.

Brynäs IF, Club

Brynäs violates international ice hockey rules by having more than one captain and two assistant captains on the ice. According to www.aftonbladet.se, SHL referee chief Tomas Thorsbrink said SHL has allowed this for about ten years and that as long as everyone behaves, it will not be a problem. The digital match sheet system only allows listing one captain and two assistants.

Brynäs faced criticism for allowing a player suspected of rape to play in the qualifier against HV71. According to www.sverigesradio.se, board member Per-Johan Johansson described this as a clear mistake and something the club regrets. Both suspected players have been suspended while the investigation continues, and they deny the charges.

I crossed the line for what is acceptable behavior, I apologize to the cameraman and TV4, it should of course not affect any outsider.

Johan Larsson, Team captain

Brynäs IF's junior program is one of Sweden's most prominent talent development programs. The club has an official podcast featuring club officials and players. The SDHL team won a historic SM gold. According to SVT Gävleborg, player Lucas Pettersson described the team's form as very good and expressed optimism about reaching the SHL quarterfinals.

Now in hindsight we can state that it is clearly a wrong decision. If there is anything we should regret and take back, it is that.

Per-Johan Johansson, Board member

As long as everyone behaves, this will not be a problem.

Tomas Thorsbrink, SHL referee chief

Very good. We have good form, we have found good team spirit. We look forward to the challenge at the end.

Lucas Pettersson, Player
