Key Points
  • Two brothers charged in Skien shooting, one remanded for two weeks.
  • Police found shell casings but seized weapon does not match; multiple weapons suspected.
  • Separate case: 45-year-old charged with arson, violence, and threats against police.

A man in his 30s has been remanded in custody for two weeks in connection with a shooting in Skien on Sunday evening. Police have charged two brothers, both of whom deny criminal guilt. The man in his 30s turned himself in on Thursday.

Police prosecutor Ida Charlotte Einhausen requested two weeks of custody with a full mail and visitation ban. The charge states that the man violated Penal Code section 189a regarding carrying a firearm in a public place. Police claim he had a firearm during an armed conflict, but he denies this, and his defense lawyer Anna Sunde requested release.

The other suspect, a man in his 40s, is believed by police to have fired the shots, but he also denies criminal guilt. According to the detention order, he stated he only heard shots and believes they came from a gas pistol. When he appeared in court on Wednesday, he had visible injuries, which he said resulted from a fight with the other suspect on Sunday.

Police have found several 9mm shell casings at two locations. A weapon has been seized, but it does not match the casings, leading police to hypothesize that multiple weapons were used. Police believe they have found projectiles and holes in a wall that may match the shots, but the weapon that fired them has not been found.

One theory is that there is a conflict between the two brothers. In a separate case, a 45-year-old man has been charged with starting three fires in Skien on Tuesday morning. Police requested four weeks of custody.

After his arrest, the charge was extended to include violence and death threats against police. Police prosecutor Kjetil Langbach said the man made threats during the arrest, and he allegedly threatened, hit, and spat on a female police officer. The charge also includes window smashing at two locations near the fire sites.

The man has denied criminal guilt but has consented to being remanded in custody.
