Borås City Archive digitizes film treasure with grant, plans public screening
Key Points
  • Grant enables digitization of over 30 historical films previously inaccessible due to older technology
  • Digitized films will be preserved in city's e-archive for long-term accessibility
  • Public screening with film festival atmosphere planned at Röda Kvarn later this spring

The films exist on older technology and have not been able to be shown to the public, but a grant now makes it possible to begin digitizing the material and make it accessible to more people, according to officials. Beatrice Lagerström, an archivist at the City Archive, described the archive as containing a real film treasure about Borås's history. Officials report that there are over 30 titles that may be relevant to digitize.

The digitized films will also be preserved in the city's e-archive so they can remain and be accessible over time, according to the archive. When the films have been digitized, the City Archive plans to invite the public to a film screening with a film festival feel. The plan is for the screening to be held at Röda Kvarn later in the spring.

In the archive there is a real film treasure about Borås's history. Now we finally get the opportunity to digitize the material so that more can see it. It is fantastic to be able to show images from the city's history again, and we look forward to being able to show the films to the people of Borås later in the spring.
