Bonnier News and NTM extend SBL Herr rights for three seasons
Key Points
  • Bonnier News and NTM extend SBL Herr broadcasting rights for three seasons (2026-2029).
  • The extension is part of a larger collaboration between the two media groups.
  • Expressen Sport will broadcast SBL Herr matches and Sweden's national team World Cup qualifiers in 2026.

The current SBL Herr finals series between Norrköping Dolphins and Borås Basket is underway, with Norrköping leading 2-0 in matches. The extended agreement comes as the league enjoys heightened interest. According to multiple reports, Bonnier News and NTM have secured the rights for three more seasons, building on an existing partnership.

Expressen Sport will broadcast SBL Herr matches for the next three seasons, as reported by major media outlets. Additionally, Expressen will air Sweden's men's national team World Cup qualification matches against the Czech Republic and Slovenia in summer 2026. 'SBL Herr and the league's clubs want every day both to develop and to be developed, which has meant that we have taken big steps together,' said Mattias Wallström, Rights Manager at Bonnier News, in an official statement. 'We continue to see great development potential in Swedish basketball and look forward to continuing the cooperation and being able to offer Swedish basketball fans a high-quality live sports experience.'

Local newspapers have also secured broadcasting rights. UNT will broadcast all local SBL Herr matches involving Uppsala Basket and Sloga Uppsala until the 2028/2029 season, according to major media reports. 'This is an important right for us,' said Jonna Igeland, Sports Manager at UNT, in an official statement. 'We have two local teams in the league and see a clear interest among our readers to follow the sport. It gives great value for the basketball audience to be able to watch the matches live.' Igeland added: 'For us, it's not just about showing the matches. It's also about giving readers and viewers close and relevant coverage of the teams here at home. It strengthens our local offering.' Norrköpings Tidningar will broadcast Norrköping Dolphins matches for at least three more years through 2028/2029, as reported. Borås Tidning will continue to broadcast SBL Herr matches, including the ongoing finals series. 'Extra fun to get a new multi-year agreement in place at the same time as the basketball temperature in town is at its hottest, given the SM final series that Borås Basket is currently in the middle of,' said Oskar Pålsson, Sports Manager at Borås Tidning, in an official statement.

Mattias Wackenhag, League Manager for SBL Herr, said in an official statement: 'We are very satisfied with the cooperation, and for us it is natural to continue the work we have started. Interest in Swedish basketball in general, and SBL Herr in particular, is growing all the time. Then it is important for us to have a strong and secure media partner.'

Financial terms of the broadcasting rights extension have not been disclosed, and it is unclear whether the agreement also includes the women's league, SBL Dam. The specific duration of the broader NTM-Bonnier News collaboration and which other outlets may be involved remain unknown.
