Bollnäs Bostäder's camera surveillance cuts garbage room problems
Key Points
  • Camera surveillance implemented since February with immediate positive effects
  • Tag system and mis-sorting fees introduced to enforce source sorting
  • Around 300 residents have received fines of 500 kronor after just over a month

Bollnäs Bostäder has had camera surveillance in the garbage rooms since February, and the company reported good effects immediately. The municipal housing company has previously tried to get order in the source sorting, but faced ongoing challenges. To address this, the company decided to introduce a tag system and have camera surveillance, opting for what they call a 'mis-sorting fee' as a strict measure.

After just over a month, around 300 unique tenants have received a fee of 500 kronor, according to the company. There have previously been major problems in the garbage rooms that Bollnäs Bostäder is responsible for. The exact criteria for determining mis-sorting and issuing fees, as well as how the tag system functions, remain unclear.

Additionally, it is unknown how many garbage rooms are under surveillance, but the company's approach aims to sharpen tenant behavior.
