On Friday evening just before 10 PM, police in Nordland responded to an ammonia leak at an industrial area. The leak occurred at the salmon slaughterhouse Holmøy produkter in Sortland municipality. Two people who had been near the gas were sent to the emergency room for examination. According to NRK Nordland, daily manager Børge Holm described that staff discovered the leak before the alarm went off, evacuated the building, and shut down the facility. The leak was stopped at 10:20 PM, and police were conducting investigations. The cause of the leak and the condition of the two people remain unknown.
