The blood center at Visby Hospital has been a co-organizer of Blodomloppet for over twenty years. In 2025, it had just over 1,100 active blood donors, but officials say there is room for more. Region Gotland is paying the entry fee for its employees who participate in teams.
Matilda Olin, unit manager at the blood center, said the event is an opportunity to highlight the need for donors and show how easy it is to contribute. She added that the race helps reach people who may be considering donating but have not yet taken the step. It remains unclear how many new donors the region aims to recruit or how many participants are expected.
