Mead, who turned 31 last Saturday, has won the Women's Champions League, Women's Super League, FIFA Champions Cup, and three League Cups with Arsenal. She played a key role in Arsenal's Champions League final win last May, setting up the only goal for Stina Blackstenius. Arsenal's director of women's football, Clare Wheatley, said Mead will go down in history as one of the club's best forwards and a legend.
Wheatley added that Mead is a special person who will always be welcome at Arsenal. Mead won player of the tournament and the golden boot at Euro 2022, and was named BBC women's footballer of the year and BBC sports personality of the year that same year. She suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture in November 2022, sidelining her for the 2023 World Cup.
Beth will go down in history as one of our best forwards and a legend of the club. Beth is such a special person and will always be welcome at Arsenal. I know our supporters will join me in wishing Beth happiness and success in her future endeavours.
She returned after 11 months out and was part of the England squad that retained the European Championship title in 2025. This season, Mead has made 27 appearances in the WSL and Champions League, with 11 as a substitute, and scored five goals. Arsenal also announced the departures of Laia Codina and Victoria Pelova.
Codina, who joined in 2023, made 58 appearances and scored four goals. Pelova made 87 appearances after joining from Ajax in January 2023, scoring six goals. However, she only made five WSL starts and 15 substitute appearances this season after suffering an ACL injury in summer 2024 that ruled her out for most of the next campaign.
Before joining Arsenal, Mead scored 66 goals in 88 games for Sunderland across five years. She became the youngest player to win the WSL golden boot in 2015, aged 20. London City Lionesses and Manchester City are interested in signing Mead, though her next club has not been confirmed.
