The BBC has unveiled a first-look image and confirmed casting for the series, which is currently in production. This adaptation is based on Townsend's novel and will consist of nine episodes. The series is scheduled to arrive on screens in the upcoming year.

David Nicholls is adapting the series for the screen, with Big Talk Studios, part of ITV Studios, producing it for the BBC. According to Daily Express - Showbiz, David Nicholls described the adaptation as an absolute pleasure, noting his long-standing admiration for the book since its publication and praising Sue Townsend's comic writing and ventriloquism.

I happen to be just a little older than Adrian and have adored this book since reading it on publication. It's a classic piece of comic writing and an incredible piece of ventriloquism on Sue Townsend's part - how did she know? Adapting Adrian for the screen is an absolute pleasure.

Oliver Savell will play the titular role of Adrian Mole. The cast includes Lisa McGrillis as Pauline, Colin Hoult as George, Pam Ferris as Grandma, Galaxie Clear as Pandora, and Alun Armstrong as Bert. Further cast members are Jude Forsey as Nigel, Rory Keenan as Mr Lucas, David Wilmot as Mr Scruton, and Karl Collins as Mr Cherry.

The official synopsis states that the series begins on New Year's Day 1981 and follows Adrian's diary about family life and being a teenager before mobile phones and social media.
