A new bookstore called Banned Books & Co opened in Knivsta, Sweden, on Saturday. The store focuses on selling books that have been censored, banned, or labeled as dangerous in various times and countries around the world. " The store is reportedly a combined bookstore, antiquarian shop, and record shop that also aims to host discussions on free speech and serve as a counterforce to digital culture.
It was started by four individuals: Carl-Marcus Gidlöf, who also runs a record company; Fredrik Viljesjö, who works with organizational development; journalist and author Daniel Åhlin; and author Anders Herdevall Rydell. According to reports, the idea originated from a book club formed by fathers with children in the same class, which later evolved into the bookstore. The store is said to be the first bookstore in the town in 70 years, taking over a space previously used by a real estate agent who closed their office.
A book that is banned is a book worth reading.
