At least two people have died and seven others were injured in an avalanche that struck Val Ridanna in South Tyrol, northern Italy, on Saturday, March 21, 2026. According to reports from Rai News cited by Swedish media outlet Aftonbladet, the avalanche occurred around lunchtime, catching ten people in the snow masses. Three of the injured were reported to be in serious condition, with one victim airlifted by helicopter to Innsbruck, Austria for medical treatment.
Rescue operations involving both Italian and Austrian personnel are ongoing at the site near the Austrian border, as not all victims have been recovered from the snow. The large-scale rescue effort continues in the mountainous region.
