Healthcare company Attendo has filed a lawsuit against Västerås municipality, seeking 24.7 million kronor in damages. The legal action comes approximately one year after the municipality terminated its home care service contract with the company.

According to reports, Västerås municipality ended the contract citing systematic time registration fraud, which led to a police investigation against Attendo. However, the healthcare company maintains that the contract was terminated on false grounds. Attendo conducted its own investigation which reportedly found no wrongdoing, and the police investigation has since been dropped.

The contract termination affected approximately 900 customers who needed to find new care providers and resulted in 600 employees losing their jobs. Despite the lawsuit, Västerås municipality stands by its decision to terminate the contract, stating there were clear reasons for the action.

Attendo claims the termination caused both reputational and financial damage to the company. The lawsuit has been filed with the Västmanland District Court as the dispute between the healthcare provider and the municipality continues.
