Key Points
  • Multiple assaults on security personnel and bystanders have occurred globally, including in Portland, Scandinavia, Melbourne, Murrieta, and Lethbridge.
  • Incidents range from bar fights and festival assaults to machete attacks, resulting in injuries and legal charges.
  • Legal proceedings are ongoing, with many defendants pleading not guilty, and investigations continue into motives and connections.

In Portland, Oregon, three individuals were charged with assault after allegedly attacking a security guard and bartender at the Sandy Hut Bar on October 10. The altercation began shortly after their food order was mixed up. Marchelle Quiana Swafford allegedly sucker-punched the security guard twice and spat in his face, and later hit the bartender in the mouth, fracturing eight teeth and causing him to lose consciousness. The security guard was not injured, but the bartender was taken to the hospital. The trio fled the scene and were arrested four months later using security footage; all three defendants have pleaded not guilty to their charges. Swafford faces several assault charges, while Nikiesha Monicks Young and Daniel J. Jones face third-degree assault charges.

In Scandinavia, several incidents have involved security guards as victims. In Norway, men were arrested in Risør and Kristiansand for attacking security personnel. In Risør, a man in his 30s allegedly hit a guest and a security guard and behaved threateningly, while in Kristiansand, a man in his 60s was arrested for hitting a security guard. In Sweden, two men are accused of subjecting a security guard to violence when informed a bar was closing, causing a dislocated shoulder. A man in his 45s is charged after allegedly attacking a security guard in Lidköping municipality, causing the guard to seek medical care and lose work income. Additionally, a security guard in Oslo city center was beaten and kicked, including to the head, by two people who fled the scene. Police are searching for the two men in Oslo and following up witnesses and victims.

Another assault occurred at a festival in Norje, Sweden, where a 35-year-old man allegedly committed unprovoked assaults, including hitting another man and a security guard, and attempted to hide in a tent. The 35-year-old man is charged with two counts of assault and obstruction of justice, but he denies the crimes and says he does not remember the events.

In Melbourne, Australia, a machete attack outside a dessert bar caused up to 100-150 bystanders to flee the scene. An 18-year-old man was assaulted and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and a 16-year-old boy was assaulted but not physically injured. No arrests have been made in the Melbourne machete attack. Police are investigating the incident as a targeted incident where parties are known to each other.

In Murrieta, California, Ashly Guardino, 38, was allegedly attacked by a security guard outside the Cove Bar and Grill on June 25 at approximately 2 a.m. Kingtupu Logotala, 23, was arrested on suspicion of battery with serious injury and assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm in this incident.

Other isolated assaults include an incident in October 2025 where a woman tried to enter a bar and was denied entry by a doorman who stated she was heavily intoxicated. Additionally, a man in his 20s was arrested in Åre on Maundy Thursday, suspected of violence against an official.

In Lethbridge, Canada, a 19-year-old male was critically injured after being knocked out by a security guard at an event on October 26. A 27-year-old security guard is charged with aggravated assault in this incident. The victim was discharged from hospital on October 30 and continues to recover.

Legal proceedings and victim recoveries are ongoing across these cases. However, the exact motives behind the attacks in Portland, Melbourne, and other locations remain unclear beyond initial triggers like order mix-ups or entry refusals. Authorities have not detailed what specific evidence or witness testimonies support the allegations against the 35-year-old man in Norje, beyond his denial, leaving gaps in the public understanding of that case.

The current statuses and outcomes of the legal cases for all the accused individuals across the different incidents are still unfolding, with many defendants pleading not guilty and investigations continuing. It is unknown whether there are any connections or patterns between these geographically dispersed incidents, or if they are entirely isolated events. Furthermore, what measures are being implemented by venues or authorities to prevent similar assaults on security personnel in the future has not been widely reported.
