The attack occurred on Sunday as the team was returning from an away match against Samartex in Samreboi. The incident happened on the road between Samreboi and Berekum, specifically on the Bibiani-Goaso or Goaso-Bibiani road. Armed robbers blocked the road to prevent the bus from passing, then opened fire on the bus. According to Berekum Chelsea, the team bus was attacked by a group of armed robbers who blocked the road to prevent their passage.
Frimpong was shot and killed during the attack. He was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital with a head injury and was later pronounced dead. Dominic Frimpong was 20 years old.

In a similar incident in 2023, Legon Cities' team bus was attacked after a game at Samartex, but no injuries were reported.
