Arla is investing in a new large-scale cheese production facility in Götene. Production at the new cheese dairy is expected to start in 2030, and manufacturing of household cheese will be moved from Denmark to Götene in 2030. The investment is expected to create about 70 new jobs at the dairy itself.
Arla's CEO Cecilia Kocken says the investment will create many, many more jobs around farms and subcontractors. ' When the new cheese dairy is ready in 2030, the facility is expected to receive one billion kilograms of milk per year, doubling the milk volume from current levels. With the new cheese dairy in Götene, Sweden's degree of self-sufficiency in cheese will increase.
With the 40,000 more cows we are talking about, a rough estimate indicates that it involves around 4,000 total job opportunities.
Kocken explained, 'This means a huge amount. ' The Swedish Board of Agriculture's investigator views Arla's investment positively. Åsa Lannhard Öberg, agricultural policy investigator at the Swedish Board of Agriculture, said, 'Cheese is the area where we have a very low self-sufficiency rate.
' The total investment cost for the new cheese dairy has not been disclosed, and it is unclear how many of the expected 4,000 jobs will be direct versus indirect.
This means a huge amount. Now we go from 37% self-sufficiency in cheese to 47% self-sufficiency.
