  • The prize honors Tomas Tranströmer and is awarded biennially with 200,000 kronor.
  • Eligibility focuses on poets from the Nordic or Baltic regions, with exceptions possible.

The Tranströmer Prize was established by Västerås city in 1997 to honor the poet Tomas Tranströmer, who lived in Västerås between 1965 and 2000. Awarded every other year, the prize carries a monetary award of 200,000 kronor and is given to a poet selected by a jury.
