According to reports from Norrländska Socialdemokraten, the political power struggle within the Social Democrats in Pajala took a new dramatic turn over the weekend. At the party's annual meeting, Anders Nilsson from Tärendö was elected as the new chairman, defeating David Svenn, who tops the municipal council candidate list.
The election follows previous tensions between the two politicians. During a meeting last autumn, David Svenn reportedly accused the newly elected chairman Anders Nilsson of pushing and making threats, allegations that Nilsson has denied. The incident allegedly ended with threats of a police report being filed.
I believe that David Svenn and I will be able to work together
Despite the previous conflict, Anders Nilsson expressed optimism about future cooperation. 'I believe that David Svenn and I will be able to work together,' Nilsson stated according to the report.
The leadership change comes amid ongoing turbulence within the local Social Democrat party in Pajala. The party recently faced internal disagreements when the nomination committee's proposal for the municipal council list was voted down and replaced by a challenger list dominated by members from and around the central town, with David Svenn as the municipal council candidate. This decision reportedly sparked strong dissatisfaction within the party's rural factions.
