American battery company Lyten has completed its acquisition of Northvolt's battery factory in Skellefteå, Sweden, marking a new chapter in the region's industrial history. According to reports, Lyten plans to hire approximately 600 people in the coming year, with the majority of positions located in Skellefteå. The company is implementing a rehiring program aimed at bringing back former Northvolt employees who possess valuable experience with the factory's equipment and operations.
Keith Norman, Lyten's marketing chief, stated that the company is adopting a different philosophy than its predecessor, focusing on "quality over speed" and targeting a broader range of markets beyond just the automotive industry. Former Northvolt employee Staffan Nyman expressed hope of being rehired by the new owners, having submitted applications to the American company. Lyten executives Keith Norman and Matthias Arleth have outlined their vision for the factory, emphasizing a slower scaling of battery production with diversification into multiple business areas.
