Key Points
  • Amanda Knox is promoting her film 'Mouth of the Wolf' at sold-out London screenings during her first UK visit
  • The Kercher family and their lawyer have strongly criticized Knox's visit, accusing her of profiting from Meredith's memory
  • Knox was wrongfully convicted of Meredith Kercher's 2007 murder and was definitively acquitted in 2015 after years of legal battles

Knox, who was definitively acquitted by Italy's Supreme Court in March 2015 after spending nearly four years in jail for Kercher's murder, is hosting two screenings of the documentary at Greenwich Picturehouse on April 21 and 22. The film, directed by her husband Christopher Robinson, follows her return to Perugia, Italy, where the crime occurred. On social media, Knox expressed excitement about her first UK visit and noted the screenings were sold out, with reports indicating she and Robinson will take questions after the film.

The case dates back to November 2007, when Meredith Kercher, a 21-year-old British student, was sexually assaulted and stabbed to death in her bedroom in Perugia, according to reports. Knox was convicted of the murder, released on appeal in 2011, reconvicted in 2014, and finally acquitted in March 2015.

Knox's visit has provoked a strong response from the Kercher family, who have been left 'speechless,' according to Daily Mail - News. Their lawyer, Francesco Maresca, accused Knox of 'cashing in for the umpteenth time on Meredith's memory.' According to Daily Mail - News, Maresca described the family's frustration, saying they feel 'enough is enough' and urging Knox to 'draw a line' under the case. He further noted that Knox wanted to visit the Kercher family and Meredith's childhood home while in the UK, a request the family found 'unwanted.'

Over the years, Knox has transformed her wrongful conviction into a lucrative career spanning books, podcasts, film, and stand-up comedy. This media presence has fueled divergent public perceptions. To her supporters, she is a wronged woman who spent four years in an Italian prison for a crime she did not commit, as noted by Daily Mirror - Main. To her critics, she is seen as someone who has monetised Meredith Kercher's brutal killing, according to Daily Mirror - Main.

It seems to me and the family that every six months or so Knox makes another media initiative be it a podcast, interview, documentary or film. To be frank, enough is enough, they have really had more than is reasonable of it now, they and myself just don’t comprehend why she keeps on doing things like this and just can’t leave this alone.

Every time she speaks, she reopens the tragedy of what happened to Meredith nearly 20 years ago and it really hurts the family – if Knox keeps insisting so much she and Meredith were friends why doesn’t she respect her memory and keep quiet?
