Alison Hammond has opened up about her dramatic weight loss, saying she shed 11 stone by tackling her 'childish mentality to food' and giving up her beloved toffees, according to the TV presenter. At her heaviest she weighed 30 stone, she said. The turning point came when her mother, who had Type 2 diabetes, was worried for her, and Hammond later discovered she was pre-diabetic. She said she thought, 'I have to be an adult about this,' and that the sweets had to stop, and the fatty foods.
Hammond's dietary overhaul involved cutting out sweets and fatty foods, but she still allows herself a couple of toffees a day, a significant reduction from her previous consumption. She explained that she had a childish mentality with regards to food, especially toffees, but now she'll only have a couple a day. The specific diet plan she follows remains unclear, but she has emphasised the importance of moderation.
I've had a personal trainer for five years, even when I was at my biggest. But I had a childish mentality with regards to food, especially toffees – but now I'll only have a couple a day. We're not getting any younger, are we, babes? You realise at some point you've got to look after yourself. I've got a speaker under my pillow to play relaxing music, and a sleep tracker.
Exercise has also played a key role in Hammond's transformation. She has had a personal trainer for five years, even when she was at her heaviest, she said. Her routine includes Reformer Pilates, which she described as 'absolutely incredible' and 'brilliant' for stretching. She also attends an early-morning circuit class led by Steve Hensel at Blue Zone, starting at 6.30am for a full hour, noting it's a proper old-school gym. When she is working, Hammond opts for a walk instead of a formal workout.
Beyond diet and exercise, Hammond has incorporated other wellness practices. She uses a speaker under her pillow to play relaxing music and a sleep tracker to monitor her rest. She tried a cold plunge pool once but lasted only about a minute, declaring, 'Why am I literally trying to kill myself?' Reformer Pilates classes cost around £25 to £40 for a 45-minute session. Hammond described herself as 'stiff as a board', highlighting the need for flexibility work. Her current weight and the exact timeline of her weight loss journey remain undisclosed.
My mum had Type 2 diabetes and she was worried for me, so when I then found out that I was pre-diabetic, that was frightening. I thought 'I have to be an adult about this'. The sweets had to stop, and the fatty foods.
You feel absolutely incredible after it. I really need a good stretch - so Reformer Pilates has been brilliant for me. I also do this early-morning circuit class from the brilliant Steve Hensel at Blue Zone. I'll go at 6.30am and do a full hour, it's a proper old-school gym.
I did try one of those cold plunge pools once - and absolutely not! It lasted about a minute. I was like, 'Why am I literally trying to kill myself?'
I've got a personal trainer - she's amazing, she trains me when I can train. If I'm working, I don't train, I'll go for a walk. But when I'm at home, I'll g...
