Freij, who previously played for Timrå in the SHL, chose to wear jersey number 23 to honor his former Timrå teammate Jeremy Boyce-Rotevall.

Boyce-Rotevall has reportedly left Timrå after the season ended, but it is unclear if he will continue his career elsewhere or retire. He played 400 games in the SHL and 354 in Hockeyallsvenskan for Timrå while wearing number 23. Freij, who won a JVM gold medal earlier this year, had the opportunity to play in North America after Timrå's season concluded.
