Alfons Freij will finish the season in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose, according to reports. The defenseman, who played for Timrå IK in the SHL, had a strong end to his season, with nine of his eleven points coming in the last ten games. Timrå's season is over, and Freij, drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in 2024, has reportedly signed a rookie contract with the team.
He was part of Sweden's gold-winning team at the World Junior Championships. Freij's move follows that of his teammate Eddie Genborg, who signed with the Detroit Red Wings and is finishing the season in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins. According to reports, Freij's plans for next season include staying with Timrå for another year.
