An 86-year-old man in Piteå is mourning his wife who died after falling from a lift device handled by home care service personnel, according to local reports. Gun Brännholm reportedly fell to the floor when a harness came loose as she was being transferred from her bed to a wheelchair in the couple's bedroom. The incident occurred while home care service staff were assisting with the lift operation.
After spending 16 days in hospital following the fall, Gun Brännholm passed away. Her husband, Östen Brännholm, expressed his grief, stating: "What happened became her death. " Gun Brännholm had been using a wheelchair for several years, and her husband had initially cared for her himself before requesting municipal assistance approximately one year ago when he felt he could no longer manage alone.
What happened became her death. I miss her so terribly much.
A hospital bed was installed in the couple's bedroom along with the lift device that was operated by home care service staff. The incident highlights concerns about safety procedures in home care services for elderly and disabled residents.
