' He adds that these times tend to be less busy with shelves more stocked compared to weekends or Wednesday and Thursday nights. Evans also advises never to go to a supermarket hungry.

This guidance emerges as food insecurity rises in the UK, with The Food Foundation calling for a 'Good Food Bill' to secure domestic supply of nutritious food. Anna Taylor, executive director of The Food Foundation, warns, 'Many are asking whether the conflict in Iran will push up food prices. ' She states that the UK food system is dangerously exposed to shocks beyond its borders and needs a Good Food Bill for resilience.

The thing that I’ve found is if you go shopping on either a Friday night, a Saturday night or a Monday morning or a Tuesday morning, you get your best bang for your buck.

It is unknown how much food prices are expected to rise due to the conflict in Iran, and whether the 'Good Food Bill' has been formally proposed or is under consideration by the UK government. Meanwhile, Aldi has announced its Easter hours: stores will be closed on Easter Sunday to give colleagues time with loved ones, open from 8am to 9pm on Good Friday and Easter Saturday, and from 8am to 8pm on Easter Monday. The quietest times to shop at Aldi during Easter weekend are between 8am and 9am, or between 7pm and 10pm.

The real issue is that the UK food system has become dangerously exposed to shocks far beyond our borders. What we need now is a Good Food Bill that sets out a long-term framework for building resilience in the UK food system — one that holds successive governments to account and protects citizens and farmers alike.
