Alcaraz, the defending champion at the Monte Carlo Masters, is seeded No. 1 and received a bye directly into the second round. He will begin his title defense against Sebastian Baez in the third match on Court Rainier III on Tuesday.
The Spanish star intends to play a full clay-court schedule, including Monte Carlo Masters, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, and the French Open. He missed the Madrid Open last year due to an adductor injury and only played one warm-up event before the 2024 French Open due to a right arm injury, losing in the Madrid quarter-finals. Alcaraz also suffered a shock early exit at the recent Miami Open.
His coach, Samuel Lopez, revealed that Alcaraz likely would have skipped Monte Carlo had he gone deep in Miami. Alcaraz is a seven-time Grand Slam champion.
