According to reports, Almenara is leaving his role as an assistant coach at FC Copenhagen, where he had worked since the summer of 2025. FC Copenhagen confirmed on its official website that the 45-year-old is leaving for another assignment, with head coach Jacob Neestrup stating they accept his wish to move closer to his family, who reportedly live in Finland.
Almenara has previously worked with Riveiro during their time at Orlando Pirates in South Africa and FC Inter Åbo. AIK recently appointed Riveiro as head coach this season, replacing Mikkjal Thomassen, who left the Stockholm club earlier this year.
