An aggressive moose that had terrorized residents of Dalsjöfors, outside Borås, for more than a year was shot on Saturday, March 23, 2026, according to local reports. The moose had reportedly been attacking people without provocation for over a year, creating fear in the community. The situation escalated on Saturday when the animal chased a woman near her home, prompting police intervention.

According to Henrik Engström, a forestry planner with Borås Municipality, the incident led to a rapid decision to euthanize the animal. 'With the moose attacking the woman, it was kept under observation until it was euthanized,' Engström told Borås Tidning. The municipality had previously applied for protective hunting permission in February after numerous resident complaints about the aggressive animal, but no moose was shot during that hunt despite about ten animals being in the area.

The Saturday incident triggered what officials called a 'paragraph nine' response, where police contacted a search hunter who shot the moose safely. This is not the first time a moose has caused problems in Dalsjöfors - in September 2010, another moose broke through a glass window and ended up in the courtyard of the local health center, requiring similar intervention.
