At least 25 farmers were killed in an attack in northeastern Congo-Kinshasa's Ituri province, according to local sources. The assault, which occurred overnight Saturday into Sunday, was reportedly carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a group suspected of having links to the Islamic State terror organization.
The attack targeted several small villages in the region, with many victims reportedly killed with machetes after being captured and tied up. Local leader Leon Undemutau Manzaleke told AFP news agency that all the victims were farmers working in the fields.

Security sources confirmed the attack on Monday, though it occurred during the previous night. The ADF, which originated in neighboring Uganda, has claimed affiliation with Islamic State since 2019. Despite being combated by military forces from both Congo-Kinshasa and Uganda, the group has repeatedly carried out deadly raids against civilians in the region.
